***We will be filling out these sections over the course of the coming months. Thank you for your patience.***
Provided here are the necessary elements for the lessons for this grade, presented in an ordering that assumes a start time for the school year of August/September. If your circumstances are different, you will need to adjust the sequence relative to the liturgical year accordingly.
Pilgrimage to the Church
Orientation
You will begin the presentation with a pilgrimage to the church or chapel as an experience of prayer for the children, an opportunity to practice cooperating as a micro-community of faith, and an occasion to learn key furnishings in the church that are used in the liturgy and sacraments.
This practice of silence creates the condition for us to hear the “still, small voice of God” (1 Kings 19:12) speaking to our hearts.
The Ten Bridesmaids
Scripture
TEACHER’S AIMS
• Proclaim the mystery of the Kingdom of God through the word and images of the parable of the 10 Bridesmaids
• Ponder with the children what it means to be invited to this banquet and in particular to live the special mission of lighting the way for Jesus’ coming. If this is offered during Lent, focus on preparation for Easter.
• Ponder the “Dismissal Prayer” at Mass as a “command” from Jesus to live the grace of Eucharist
• Ponder with the children the connection between the Eucharist and our blank page as a preparation for the Parousia.
